Monroe County Medical Center is a 49 bed hospital located in Tompkinsville, which is about 30 miles from Glasgow.  The facility underwent complete remodeling in 2007.  The hospital has six family practice physicians and clinics consisting of Cardiology, Surgery, Urology, Dermatology, Colonoscopy, and Wound Care.  The ER has 5 private rooms and one overflow room.   All x-rays and CT scans are read immediately by the same groups that read the downtown Louisville hospitals with written full reports available immediately. The ER call room is equipped with a bed, recliner, desk, television, and private bathroom, with shower, and is located in the hall adjacent to the ER.  There is also a staff lounge with sofas, computers, internet, and fruit and other snacks.  The cafeteria is open from 7 am to 7 pm, and it is one of the best around.  Many of the local citizens, when wanting to go out for a good meal, actually choose to come to the hospital cafeteria. Major transfers go to Louisville and Nashville, with minor transfers going to Glasgow.
