Jun 4th, 2013

A study published in Pediatrics on June 3, 2013 shows an increase in cases of pediatric poisonings by ingesting the prescription medications of parents and other adults.  The study concluded that children 5 years old and younger were at greater risk for exposure, followed by children 13 to 19 years old.  Furthermore, ingestion of narcotics and hypoglycemics resulted in the most number of serious injuries and hospitalizations, whereas hypoglycemics and beta-blockers resulted in the most emergency department visits.  Read the study here.
