Physicians and Patients Embracing Group VisitsAug 8th, 2013
Shared medical appointments, or group visits, in which a physician or other practitioner sees multiple patients at once, are growing in popularity. According to recent studies, as many as 13% of medical practices offer shared appointments, and the number is expected to grow.
Physicians and patients are finding that shared medical appointments are an efficient way to educated patients. " I used to spend hours teaching each patient individually about safe sun practices and about melanoma. Shared medical appointments provide an opportunity to teach in a different way," Dr. Stephen Tang told Time.
Other patients find that sharing appointments with others who suffer from a common disease, like diabetes or cancer, is reassuring and helps them cope. Doctors find that many of those patients end up improving their health and preventing more costly care.
